At the start of Advent each year, a Christmas tree appears in Fellowship Hall covered with paper ornaments. Each ornament is marked with the name of one of the several Holiday Angels organizations we partner with: Boulevard School, our Abundance Pantry guests, our Labre guests, the Heights Emergency Food Center, or Family Promise.
No matter how many ornaments are placed on the tree, they disappear immediately as there are always more “angels” eager to participate than expected.
Boulevard School: We provide school supplies, Christmas gifts, tutors, and more to Boulevard School families. Each year the school sends the ages and wish lists for several families. Angels deliver a wrapped toy and a clothing item for each child to the school, which distributes them to the families.
The Heights Interfaith Council collects holiday gifts for the children of clients served by the Heights Emergency Food Center. Parents submit names, ages, and gift suggestions for their children aged 12 and younger. Gift request cards are then created and distributed to faith council communities in the Heights.
Family Promise stocks a store with unwrapped items for program families to select free of charge. The items are donated by area faith organizations from a list of Holiday Wishes posted on the Family Promise website. Forest Hill commits a certain number of gifts to the store each year to the store but that number is usually surpassed. Last year members donated 25 gifts even though there were only 15 Family Promise ornaments on our tree.
We also provide gifts directly to families through our Labre and Food Pantry ministries. Thank you to everyone who helps brighten the Christmas of one of these families.
